I have a couple of cats that will get in the chickens coop and not bother them I think one is afraid of them and hasn't gone in since. But my black cat (Midnight) loves to get in the run and the coop. I call him my chicken guard cat. He has spent many a night in the coop withem and not one dead bird. Now I have another cat I won't let near the chickens because I know he would probably kill them. He even likes to torment my rabbits.
I have only lost my chickens and ducks to raccoons and this is in the Spring time when they have young to feed. So I keep a radio playing at that time. I will alternate betwen music and talk radio shows to confuse the raccoons.

Mother to 3 dogs, 9 rabbits, 4 ducks, about 30 chickens and about as many cats. I live on a 3 acre farmette. The dogs are fenced in our backyard and can't get out.

I keep a close eye on all my cats to make sure they don't bother the girls. I have 13 RIR, 2 Plymouth rock and a barred rock in the one coop, which is the coop that my cat gets into. They are all full grown.
In our coop we just built in our dairy barn are the americaunas, speckled sussex, austrolorp (sp) and 3 pekin ducks and 1 cayuga duck. They all get along real good. The cats can't get in that coop at all unless they sneak past you without being seen, which is what happened to my female cat. She was glad to see me that evening when I had gone out to check for eggs and make sure they had food and water for thenight. She gladly went out andhad not tried to get back in the room since.

for all the years i have owned chickens and cats....only ONCE i had a cat kill chicks(got cat from the local pound).. i saw her stalking and killing the baby chickens when the hen has not paying attention..
i took the cat back to the pound...
should not be a problem.. 'specially if you have a good mama hen..

I have a 17.2 lb. cat- I don't worry about him killing the girls, but I do try to keep them separated- I would hate for him to accidently SIT on one.........
