wondering

i'm not quite sure. i have the same problem, but i have more than 18 hens, and 3 or 4 eggs a day... have you checked for snakes? they do this sort of thing. and they are good at hiding!

Count on it ranging anywhere from 0 - 5 eggs per day.

Just remember, 7days a week @ 5 eggs a day = 3 dozen eggs a week. Is that really how many you want? If you want them to sell, you'll probably need more chickens.

Once they're all laying, that's going to be a bunch of eggs at the end of a week. What are you planning on doing with them all? I have 7 chickens, and am freaking out at the thought of 4 eggs each per week, on average. <Seven sounded like a good idea at the time.>

Depends on breed, age and climate. I have one girl that lays 6 days out of 7, 1 that is 5 out of 7 and one that if I am lucky 3 out of 7. They are a year and a half, one is a Barred Rock the other 2 are not very good quality Barnevelders. I am waiting for all my other girls to get old enough to lay so I can quit buying eggs. I try to give each of my dogs an egg a day and right now that is not happening with my own girls

i have 6 chooks. 2 of them maybe only just starting to lay. at the moment it seems to be a maximum of 4 eggs a day so just over 2 dozen a week?

i try not to eat too many of them - but its difficult, dont think you can beat freshly laid eggs, but i give a lot away.

am really happy to give the eggs away to people that i know appreciate them. its such a nice feeling when they say thanks, or come back to me and tell me what they did with the eggs, and how much they were enjoyed.

I agree. I enjoy giving eggs, veggies, homemade jams, jellies, and bread to people who appreciate the quality of fresh food. But, for those who are just looking for something free, no way. That would be "casting pearls before swine", which is something I refuse to do. They're just as happy with store bought ("It's just as good" <shudder>) but they don't like having to pay. Fahgeddabowdit!!
