In the end of Feb I posted that our favorite girls were eaten by coyotes. I bought a Hovabator and we put their 3 eggs in they had been sitting on. I really didn't think they would hatch, but this morning 1 of each is HATCHING!!!!!!!!
I am SO excited I am crying

What now?

I read to leave them in until they are dry. Do I put them in my pail I keep my week old babies I buy in with the regular red heat lamp? Do they eat starter scratch right away?
Thanks!
I just had to share our glorious news and gives thanks to God!

congrats, leave them in the bator til they dry, up to 24 hours is okay. Get the brooder up to 95 degrees, dip their beaks in the water when you put them in the brooder, provide food right away they may or may not eat right away but make it available. Good luck

Thanks!
So how does the baby get unattached from the shell? It is dragging it around right now. Does the cord just dry up and break off? We have no grown girls right now to help. There mama's are gone.

Here is a picture of 3 of 5 that have hatched...only one left to hatch.

Thanks! So far there are 3 EE and 2 black ones? Not sure what they are? The Rooster was a Plymouth Rock, and the Mom was a Production chicken. I have never seen black baby chicks before!
