Update this AM,

Pekin duck made it and has a bro or sis out too. so 2 duckies (4 are still wiggling and one is pipped)

Geese are pretty much all hatched, one is wiggling it's little fuzzy butt out this morning so 6 total there.

WOO hoo. and I only had to help out one little duckie that got glued to his shell...Humidity was not up enough. It is liek 87% this morning so all is good.

There are more working in the 2nd bator! there are 7 this hatch and 5 duckies this hatch there are 41 in the bator #2 and that includes calls, geese, pekin, and chicken. I have 1 dozen eggs ready to go in the bator when these 12 get done hatching! LOL. OMG I am gonna have so many waterfowl it is not going to be funny!

I told DH we are gonna have to stop on the Pekin and Goose eggs hatching and let the calls do their thing! I don't have enough brooders for all these diff varieties. If it was warmer, I would send some Pekin to you again! LOL. I wonder if you could put some hand warmers in there with the eggs to keep them a good warmth. you know the kind you squeeze and break the seal and it heats up... just a thought!

I finally have the humidity up it is like 87% or so in the bator. the sock helped I think. Thanks whoever gave me that idea!

When you said you had 12 in the bator, I was thinking you meant 12 of each!! So that makes sense! The other goose isn't gonna make it?
Wow, you will definitely have your hands full for sure! I would love more pekin eggs, but I don't have anything else to trade

Not right now anyway! But I would think the hand warmers would work, as long as they didn't get too hot. That would be the problem with them I would think.
You could probably put the pekins and geese together, and the calls and chicks together, unless they are standard chicks. I'm not sure how big the call ducklings are, so I don't know if the size difference would be that much.

Great job on your hatch by the way!!

shelley, thanks!

Maybe in late Feb you can trade me off some other eggs for the FFA kids to hatch out, they are going to do an incubation segment and I am going to help them. Whatever they hatch out they are selling for money to go to different activities the remainder of the year. I think that is cool. What do you think about that!

Yeah that would make a huge diff having 12 of each goose and duck...

I think the other goose is gonna make it, just hangin out in his shell when I left this morning. Honestly I did not have to help ANY of the geese out of the shell which really surprised me. I had heard people having to help out. The ducks are the ones I have had to help out. I honestly think, someone must have been sitting on them and we just did not notice them. When we found this batch there were 13 eggs in there and we put them in the bator the next day after the bator warmed up. I think some of them got started earlier than others therefore the delay in a few of them.

Be warned when your ducks and geese hatch, the goslings poop EVERYWHERE it is really nasty. MissPrissy said it was but oh I never dreamed. Paper towels put paper towels down so you can just pick them up easier!

I will make more "holding pens" inside using the clear rubbermaid containers. they are awesome and CHEAP or is that Cheep! LOL I was going to post pictures this morning but DD used my camera and it is MIA. URGH!!

Yeah I would think they had been brooded a bit as well, especially since they hatched before the ducks. I read online somewhere yesterday that chinese goose take 32 days (I think it was), and the others take 30. Don't quote me, cause I'm not sure, but they take longer than most. Those and the africans, I believe it was. Granted yours are mixed, but since duck eggs are supposed to take only 28 days, I would have to agree. Or it could be since these were her first eggs, they hatched early. It seems all my pullets' eggs that I set hatched 2 days early.

The only chickens I have are bantams, but I could swipe some of my dad's standard hens' eggs to swap with you, if you would want. That is really cool that they are doing that.

The link I use shows Chicks at 21, Ducks at 28, Geese at 28-34 days. that could be on the early 2 days.... I don't care if they are bantams or standards or what, we just want them to have a good mix for the project. Whatever works. You know, If you want to wait to ship the fish tank thing till then, that would save postage. and you would have a good place to put the eggs!!!!

Edited due to stupidity on not sticking the link on here!!! http://www.msstate.edu/dept/poultry/hatch.htm

That's fine by me, if it's ok with you. I'll steal a stamp from dad to send you that B&BW coupon, it expires Dec. 24, I think, and it is for a free item up to $13. I would hate it to go to waste!

WOW I forgot about that! DD will be so excited! Anything from B&BW is awesome to her and me too! Since they are her eggs technically, I will let her use it up. Thanks....You still got my address right!

Yep I still have it. I will steal a stamp and send it out today.

ETA: Dad is on his way to the mailbox with it right now
