We have a 5 gallon bucket of ashes and at the moment, no plans to make a dedicated dust bathing area. Can I just sprinkle the ashes on the areas where they dust bathe already? Or sprinkle it over the whole run? Should I sprinkle some in the coop too?

I personally wouldn't want it in the coop. I put ashes out in the run (well cooled) and they eat the charcoal. They bathe in the ashes too.

You can also take a concrete mixing tub or the like and mix some sand, ashes, dirt, and DE together. Then put that inside the coop as you don't want it rained on.
