Wood chipper

During the winter months, i spend a large amount of time and money getting wood shavings.

I don’t want to spend money on a 3pt tractor chipper.

Has anyone had experience with the $400 range chippers from box stores?

It may not be worth it for SourRoses, but for us, it's worth the expense, time and energy to chip. We have a wood chipper and lots of pine trees. They are more of a shaving/chip than a nugget type chip. We use them in the coop. The run also has some, but mostly from when I clean the coop out. In addition to the stockpile that is next to the run, I fill empty feed bags full of chips and store them in our workshop. Then when I need them in the winter, I have some that are not frozen.
