Wood Duck or Mallard??

Lots of ducks- including Mallards- mate with other breeds. It could very likely be a mix. If you go to the Ducks Unlimited site you may be able to find out what breeds nest or migrate through your area.

Well...let's see...you live in FL...

If it's not a Mallard then I would guess you have a baby Mottled Duck. Mottled Ducks breed in FL... Also, both males and females look like a Mallard hen...

Here's a pic of baby Northern Shovelers- they look very much like your baby- down to the light colored spots on the backs.
