Easy keepers, probobly a good starter duck for those wanting to get into the wild waterfowl but of course they are not easily tamed like domestic ducks and you would need some type of covered pen/aviary or they would be gone in a minute. They are cold hardy you just need to provide a place to get out of the wind if they choose.

Oh yes. My Mandarins were wild when I got them. Then one day one of my males, I had 2 pairs, hopped out of the pen, and ran off. They are getting tamer. Hopefully they will lay this spring, as they didnt lay their first year. Are they hard to hatch? Im planning to hatch lots of ducklings. lol

(ramp if your birds are pinioned). Also, she will lead them to the food source and care for them on cold nights without a problem.
