I know this is a fairly old thread, but I just thought I'd say: @SERENITYFOWL I had a similar experience with my first hatch of wood ducks. I'm very sorry for your loss 
For future reference, chances are you're not going to get a baby wood duck to eat starter crumbles. As ducklings, they are insectivores. I've had good success feeding wood duckings live mealworms, as movement stimulates their appetite. But I have a four day old wood duckling who wants nothing to do with mealworms, but the Forage Looper Moths found around my house are a huge hit. You never know. Crickets are also a good choice to feed baby wood ducks.
Again, I know this is older, but so very sorry for your loss, but it's not your fault, wood ducks are so hard to get to eat, even with the right food sources.
