Ok, I am up here in northwestern Ontario. We have a hard time getting straw or any other agricultural product or supply for that matter. You have to be determined to keep livestock here. The cost of shipping is exorbitant also. Some horse people are using wood pellets in the stalls instead of shavings and actually really liking it. Apparently it clumps like cat litter and is more cost effective in the long run. I can get wood pellets here but my question is, will my day old chicks eat it. If not then will they when they get bigger?
Thanks. Lisa

I always use the pine pellets instead of the pine shavings in my brooders and it works great
no idea how it would work in a coop. It turns into sawdust and needs to be replaced fairly often vs the pine shavings being able to last and compost
