And I managed to get a nice pile of leaves in the run 😬
hoping to get a good amount of compost for spring!

I'll give mine some leaves as well once we get their real run built. I'm pretty sure that the apple tree in the front yard dropped all it's leaves at once.

They will love it! My chickens love to scratch at the compost heap in their run. I don’t know what they find in there since we rarely eat veggies/fruits, but somehow it keeps them excited. When they’re done, I’ll rake it back together and it’s a whole new scratch game again 😆

I just raked up my first pile of leaves too, never a reason to waste those tossing them in the yard waste bin. Boom, 5 bags of dried leaves in the greenhouse for use next spring and beyond. Once I run out of room for bagged leaves, all the excess goes straight into compost bin or the run. Last year I got about 16-18 bags stored up plus an additional 3-4" of leaves in the run.

Luckily I don't have to rake leaves here.
Only if they get nice and dry do I bother gathering any of them.
I bough paper yard sacks to store some last year, on your suggestion and was excited to use them.
Alas, it was very wet fall last year, including 2' of snow in Nov.
