Oh, they aren't that sweet. What's amazing is, when they hatch out, and they haven't even dried off yet..........and they see one on the other side of the bator doing the final departure out of the shell, they cut out hobbling, stumbling over eggs and stepping off in all the many crevices in the quail rails just to get to the new arrival and torture him.........I guess getting what nutrients they can from the wet goo all over it . And they don't pick at it carefully.......they literally torture the little booger.

Just a footnote.......I left the bator running yesterday (day 24), last night and all day today (day 25) because I had about 12 or 15 that hadn't hatched, and honestly thought they were duds......(almost unplugged the bator this morning). Got home from work this evening, and had 6 new hatched fuzzballs, and another hatched out about 6:00 this evening. So, I've learned yet one more of the many, many lessons in this hatchin' thing...........expect the unexpected!!!

Thank you, Sir. I can't thank YOU and other very knowledgable folks on this forum enough for my "beginners luck"!! I've been surfing the web for a year and a half trying to gather as much info as possible on raising quail, without having to order/buy books. With this website, there's no need for anybody to buy a book on raising poultry.

I have hatched coturnix 3 times, bob whites once and buttons once, and have never caught them hatching. One minute I've got eggs, the next I've got quail.
