Well I just put Rudi in the shower with me...
(and its not easy to talk a 1/2 grown GSD into the shower either...

)
and did the salt thing. I didnt see any on her nose (which kinda saddens me cause its really something I wanted to see but then agian its a really good thing) I noticed that most of them came to the end of her fur though!
so I washed her with the salt then the flea shampoo and picked through her fur. I only saw a few!!! thank goodness they are almost gone!

you will also need to clean/wash all your dog's bedding, after you wash and dry, spread DE on the bedding, and it can also be used on the carpet, left for a day or two and vacuumed up.

For outside in the spring use benificial nematodes (sprayed on the yard) this will drastically reduce both fleas and ticks.

I use Revolution (petmeds.com) for fleas and heartworms. All rolled into one.

Oh man, I am itching just reading this thread. I just went through the flea thing. The cats brought them in DESPITE Frontline...

My 2 year old ended up with 50+ bites on her (the cats sleep in her bed). Then she would scratch until she bled, not realize it, and end up with blood smeared everywhere. It was HORRIBLE. Poor thing was on benadryl 24/7 for 2 weeks just to keep her from scratching herself bloody!

I tried for over a week to get rid of them. Capstar every other day, spray the carpets, wash everyones bedding daily... Still new bites. Finally figured out that they had infested my CAR. Poor kid was getting bit every time I snapped her into her car seat!

Eventually I called an exterminator to come out and spray the house and car while the cats were at the vet getting treated. That was last week.

I am now crossing my fingers and switching over to Advantage.

You can try sprinkling diatomaceous ( I hope I spelled that right!) earth on your carpets and then vacuum it up. I think you can also rub it in your pet's coat. It kills the fleas by drying them out and is completely natural. Once I accidentally put it in muffins ( I thought it was flour) and we all lived...although my older brother gagged on his when my mistake was discovered and he learned DE is used to treat parasites

Oh, and you can also put out flea traps at night. They don't catch a ton of fleas, but every bit helps!
