My flock is exactly 20 weeks old today. We've been on egg watch for two weeks. Let them out to free range for the very first time last night just before dark for about an hour. Recently changed the lighting schedule, added a bit of "scratch" to their daily treat and around 2 o'clock this after noon I head a very odd series of cackles from the coop, went down to see what was up, the entire flock was gathered inside instead of outside in the run, Crosby the Rooster was pacing like a nervous father, the other hens were all a flutter, one hen was perched just outside the nesting boxes on the rail with her head inside one of the boxes just as upset as she could be so I went around to the collection doors and opened them and low and behold a hen was on a nest, but got up immediately and left when I opened the door. About an hour later the same wild cries from the coop so I went back to check the nest boxes and......

Happy Birthday Girls!!!!

What a great present for me. Our very first egg! Had to share. Thanks to all of you at BackYardChickens.com. So much good info and now we are about to reap the rewards.
