Working On Christmas Gifts Already... Updated 10/14

I have made several versions, also made meade. My all time favorite is sour cherry. The blueberry tasted sorta like medicine no matter how much sugar I added (think blueberry robutussin). If you know anyone who works in a kitchen, ask for those gallon size plastic mayo containers, they work best. Fill 1/2 way with fruit , top off with cheap vodca and let sit 1-3 months. Strain and add your sugar syrup to taste. It was really fun to bottle in beer bottles and give out. The beer bottles are cheap and you can do them up with raffia and labels. Yellow raspberry is great also. Cranberry also had that medicine taste. Next year I would like to try the elderberry. We had to quit brewing for about 5 years during our 2 adoptions. It looks bad on your application when your hobbies are homebrewing. Also social workers don't like to see a basement full of carboys! I never made peach, I was afraid of sediment, but I do have a bushel of ripe pears in the sunroom. Looks like I'll be buying vodca tomorrow. Thanks for motivating me.

I strained everything through a fine muslin cloth bag (I use them for my jelly so they come out crystal clear) rather then cheesecloth, but I make them myself. So I don't worry about wrecking the liquid. I guess my jamming hobby helped with that. I also have to say, leave the skin on everything EXCEPT the peaches. Its what adds the color to your liquor.

I have to say the LEMONCELLO is the best. So amazed with myself I never did this before. I easily got $80 worth of alcohol out of this for $22 of cheap vodka. I did buy 4 of those bottles because they are special gifts and they were only $2.99 each, food grade made in Italy. I also went by Kohl's and in their clearance section they had sets of 4 scotch, wine and other assorted alcohol glasses marked down from $29.99 to $5.99. I had a 15% off coupon and Kohl's cash... so I bought 2 boxes. Going to give 2 glasses with the bottles, and pack them in my farm baskets that I have to look like a picnic gift set for Christmas.

So, long as you're not a kid in my family... you're taken care of good this year!

(I also have 1 bottle put up since we have Thanksgiving here every year.
