Its good to know there is at least the possibility of chickens living to a ripe old age.

Henrietta23, my last post was written before you posted that lovely pic of Rocky on here. I love your chicken-thief story. Thank you, and condolences.

Our hateful RIR rooster, 'Rueben-the-Terrible' lived more than 10 years and enjoyed every moment of his reign of terror --

The hen, 'Sweet Florence Pearl,' lived to be 9 years old --

Both were 'rescued' chicks --

My oldest hen was a Minorca hen. She was 14 years old. (My VERY first chicken...) Her name was Reese's. One of her main tail feathers on the left hand side was half white. LOVED that hen!

She was killed by my brothers dog quite awhile back. Along with my entire breeding of RIRs. Killed me. To this day I can't own RIRs.

I now have a Light Brahma cock bird who is 10 yrs. old. His name is Mr. Mom.

Now I need to figure out how old my Sasha is. I got her from the mother of a student I was tutoring. He was in 7th grade then so I'll ask his sister what grade he's in now. She's at the school where I sub. Here she is peeking in the door of the coop trying to figure out what I'm up to and are there treats involved? I think she's at least 5 or 6.
