Worm Treatment

Well in the past we must have all known about which herbs to use for whatever ailment but so much knowledge has been lost over the last few generations that now we are dependant on buying a ready made remedy.

Ah...Thanks..I'm in England, Stoke-on-Trent, so it may be at my pet supplies store, but maybe a bit big for my quails. I use 2mm pellets and most chicken feed is 3mm. But thanks anyway.
Great!! <waves from Herts>

That makes it easy. You can buy Verm-x as a supplement from most feed stores or buy online. You just mix it in with whatever feed you are using.

This is the new branding

You might find your feed store stocks the old branded product but it is the same i think

Verm-X doesnt do anything to prevent worms:

That's interesting, thanks for sharing. It is from 2012 though and the current ingredients are listed here https://verm-x.com/products/verm-x-original-pellets-for-poultry-ducks-and-fowl

I have found it works effectively but of course that is anecdotal rather than empirical evidence. It is herbal and promotes good gut flora and an inhospitable environment for parasites. It certainly won't do them any harm. By all means, regularly deworm the flock as well with conventional pharmaceutical medicine if you need to.

Did he do one on homeopathy? Please say yes! 😂

Now chiropractic, osteopathy, acupuncture...all based on science 👍

Yes there is one on homeopathy and acupuncture too. Click on that link for Skeptvet and there is a long list down the right hand side. My grandparents were always advocates of herbal medicine and I guess it stuck with me.

I took a look. He basically debunks everything that is not conventional veterinary medicine and pharmaceutics. And he is a conventional veterinary practitioner who presumably would earn less if people relied solely on herbal medicine, home treatments, alternative practitioners 🤔 So I will apply the same scepticism to his views because of the obvious bias.

Interesting articles though. I with him on the homeopathic quackery.

I favour science above belief. Some herbal or natural remedies are based on scientific compounds that do work! Where did aspirin come from for example? And what about menthol, tea tree, honey, dandelion, nettle, coffee, cannabis, camphor, tar, lemon, St John's Wort, opium, milk thistle, to name but a few.

Well everything is based on science and chemicals, let's face it, water is H2O. People have used herbs for thousands of years without the need to understand how it all works. My ex used to stop the dog from eating grass "because it makes him sick"; but my grandparents used to say "he's having his medicine." To get back to my original post, I am thinking that birds will instinctively eat what makes them feel well, that being a variety of herbs, no popping out for a supersize McDonalds for them!
