Wormer help

DE is useless as a wormer as you're discovering. Valbazen is the best wormer on the market, hands down. There's a 14 day withdrawal after last use of valbazen.

Fendabendazole such as safeguard....and ivomectrian are both used on people who have gone overseas and came.back with parasites... Lol. but of course some people may have a sensitivity to.it..so advise to follow the withdraw time.

Hi, Just thought I'd add my experience.  I started with DE at the same time I got my first chickens.  I spread it all over the coop, in their nesting boxes, on them and a little everywhere.  I have been battling lice and worms for the last several months.  I only became a chicken wrangler a little less than 2 yr ago.  I'm not going to say that it won't work for some people but it certainly hasn't for me.  I have had so many problems raising my chickens and am beginning to wonder if it is environmental.  I'm still using the DE, I'm thinking it probably could be worse.  We had roundworms bad and I could only get Wazine, so I used it.  No worms as of today.  Because of the lice and using seven, we aren't eating our eggs and haven't for a couple of months.  I plan on routinely worming my girls but going to use Valbazen.  It treats a lot more.  Can't eat the eggs though.
You don't have to stop eating the eggs when you use seven dust. I too bought DE and tried it....and found it to be a waste of my time and the chicken's health.

I also use ivomec pour on and don't discard the eggs...but I probably would not sell them or give them to anyone else to eat just in case.

I dosed my flock last night. I decided to give the Eprinex Ivermec a try. I will dose again in 10 days. In the meantime I want to locate a place to buy the Valbazen that Dawg 53 suggests as the best wormer on the market now. I am wondering how long I should wait before dosing again after the second dose of the Ivermec.

Sorry, adding to my update, I have a new computer and keyboard, and I am having some trouble with navigating the keyboard, and I sent my post by mistake. Can someone tell me where I can buy the Valbazen? We gave the 14 week old pullets and cockerels 1 1/2 mg and the adult hens and rooster 2 1/2 mg. In an earlier post Dawg suggested the 2 1/2 mg dose for bantams. I confess, I was anxious to see if all the birds were OK this morning.....all are fine. Thanks again for your help and interest in my problem. Joan

I had a hard time finding it myself. In a small town near me there is a store that used to be Agway. It's pretty much the same only the name is different. They carried it. Maybe, look for someplace like that or you can order it through different sites.

Every is talking about discarding the eggs after deworming. Is that simply for human consumption? Do you think you could hatch them?

Diatomataceous Earth is an organic product that can be put into food, dust baths, etc. and is supposed to help prevent worms and help with mites, etc. Might do some research for future use.
Our feed store carries it in 40 lb. bags that is economical so check with your feed store before you spend alot on a small amount off the web.

DE can help prevent mites, but will do nothing for internal parasites.

Hi JoanieMay. Didn't mean to leave you hanging. I work one weekend a month, but it's three straight days with no internet access when I do.

I've never used the Ivermec. Merck says that there's only .1% of the total dose excreted in milk. Of course, we're only guessing that it works the same way in chickens. An example is that my vet told me I can't use the same Ivermectin cattle wormer on my goat as I do my chickens, because it won't soak into the skin the way it does in cows. Which is wonky, because cows have much thicker hide than goats do.

My biggest question is, why are you repeating the dose? Once should be sufficient for at least six months.
