Hi all! I could use some help with dosage for liquid ivermectin. I have 8 hens and at least two of them, not all of them, have wworms. The worms are in their poop and look like small grains of rice. I have given them all a round of Wazine but that did nothing. I have giving them DE in their food as well.

I am going to give them liquid Ivermectin in right in the mouth but I am getting conflicting dosage information. Does anyone know how much I should put in their mouth? They are all normal siz chickens (Orpington, Barred Rock, RIR, Amercaunas).

Thank you so much!

The small grains of rice in poop are tapeworm segments. DE, wazine, and ivermectin are useless against tapeworms. You need valbazen liquid cattle/sheep wormer or zimectrin gold equine wormer to kill the tapeworms. It will require multiple wormings to get rid of them.
Here's a thread posted earlier about tapeworms if you care to read through it:

Thank you so so so much dawg53! I have been reading a lot about worms on BYC and I see you are the worm expert! I purchased Zimecterin Gold today and withheld the food from the chickens so I will give them each a pea size tomorrow morning. I will then do it again in 10 days.

I really appreciate your help!

One more question dawg53 - I have some chicks that are near the hens but not in the same cage as them. I have some that are 8 weeks and some that are 6 weeks. Are they too young to worm or should I even worm them? I haven't seen any tapeworm segments in their poop. Thank you so much!

Infected insects are the primary carriers of tapeworm eggs. If your chicks eat insects, there's the possibility they could get tapes. Roundworm eggs (many types that chickens can get) on the other hand, are in the soil and can be picked up by chicks and adult chickens simply by pecking the ground.
Consider worming at about 8-11 months old unless they act lethargic, slowed or stopped eating/drinking prior to that time frame. Coccidia could play a role too, but it sounds like your chicks are well on their way to becoming healthy birds.

Thank you dawg53 - I will just wait to worm the little ones until they are older like you suggested. I did have two of my chicks get sick about three weeks ago and I think they had cocci. I seperated them, treated them with Sulmet and after a week of not knowing if they were going to make it, they pulled through and are happy growing chicks now! Once I get this worm thing under conrol, I will be much happier!!! Thanks again - your advice have helped me so much.

Have a good day!
