Will Permethrin kill the eggs too? I've been spraying dish soap and water on her and it kills the lice instantly - but clearly not the eggs.

If you use Permethrin spray it might have enough residual activity to kill any newly hatched lice (I have a rooster that I treated a few weeks ago and no new lice on him).

I agree, the same story here. Permethrin spray is easy to use, inexpensive, no egg withdrawal issues, and very effective against mites and lice.

Thanks again CSP and FP! It's been an uphill battle with my new hen. She's literally a spring chicken and she's getting stronger and healthier every day. Her comb and waddles are almost as bright ruby red as my rooster's now...And they started out very pale - she was a sickly little bird at first...she had some kind of respiratory disease too - antibiotics took care of that. And she had to learn how to eat high quality food - my rooster showed her how.
I've noticed also (while battling the lice) that the lice was causing her to have problems with egg laying - shell less eggs...no eggs....and small eggs (too small for her chicken type). When we were beating back the lice issue, her eggs would come out full size... lol
