There is so much controversy about worming peafowl & chickens. I just want the best regimen to worm my birds without spending a fortune. Peafowl should get panacure (2 doses), then ivomec a month later. Is this correct & can you do the same for turkeys & chickens?

That is *not* correct, where did you read that? To de-worm correctly you need to know what worms you are treating and the best way to do this is to have *routine* fecals done.

Ivermectin is not an effective poultry de-wormer. It might treat large roundworms, and maybe cecal worms, but does not treat capillary worms, gape worms, or tape worms.

Fenbendazole (Safeguard & Panacur) treats large roundworms, cecal worms, capillary worms, gape worms, and possibly some species of tape worms, though praziquantel is the better choice for tapes. Capillary worms and gapeworms require 5 day treatment.

Albendazole (Valbazen) treats large roundworms, cecal worms, capillary worms, gape worms, and possibly some species of tape worms, though praziquantel is the better choice for tapes. Gape worms require 3 day treatment.

United peacock associations website. Old publishing from 1999. In search of better worming routine for preventive measures to keep my birds healthy.

The UPA is a little behind the times, lol. Do you have a vet that would be willing to do routine decals for you?

No. Closest exotic bird vet 3 hours away. I called a small local zoo also who told me if they aren't sick, you shouldnt need to worm them. Unacceptable answer.

That is unacceptable. Do you have a petco or petsmart that does dog vaccine clinics? I ask because they usually offer main in fecal testing too.

Good idea. I'll check with my local Pet smart. Tractor supply also has vaccine clinics. I've lost a few chickens due to illness already. Only the chickens who won't perch have died so it's definitely in the soil. Have thoroughly cleaned, spread lime & put down sand to help. I'm nervous about waiting til an upcoming clinic. What other preventive measures can I do in the meantime medicine wise?
