worming chickens

Does DE take care of all of that? I did not realize that they needed to be wormed. What other preventives do I need to do?

Hi math ace. I ordered Valbazen from jeffers livestock online. It's albendazole, a cattle/sheep wormer liquid. One half cc/ml for standard chicken....one quarter cc/ml for small chicken. For tapeworms, I redose in 2 weeks.(if I suspect/see evidence of tapeworms)

I wonder if it is similiar to the dairy goat wormer Fenbendazole sold under the safe-gaurd label . . . . .

How much to use? How Often?

I have been using Wazine but, would like something else to rotate with.

Thanks,
Michelle

math ace. Fenbendazole (Safeguard) is a good wormer, but wont kill tapeworms. The Safeguard paste wont kill gapeworm, but the 10% suspension liquid will kill gapeworm. turbo13, since your chicks are only 6.5 weeks old, I doubt they need to be wormed. If your chicks are acting lethargic, slowed eating/drinking or not at all, then you might have a worm issue. HudsonValleyGirl, DE and a host of other natural products are good preventatives, but they wont kill worms. If I had a belly full of worms, I dont want the doctor giving me DE,cayenne pepper, pumpkin seeds, nor crushed garlic. I want the strongest chemical to get them out.....like yesterday!! Same with chickens. I like watching "monsters inside me" on animal planet. The doctors there dont give natural wormers to humans to get rid of worms....they give them fenbendazole, ivermectin and praziquatel pamoate. Sounds familiar? Yep, same wormers as I give my chickens to get rid of worms (different form of same wormers.) Hope this helps.

Hi all,
I am in the Uk and have a ill hen I pointed out to the Vet that I use Verm-X pellets as worm control which is placed on top of existing food for X3 consecutive days each month and every month of the year, (there is no egg withdrawal period)

Anybody got a better solution to equal distrabution of wormer? (have just been introduced to injectable antibiotics with my hen, would this be the way to go an injectable wormer?) I am undergoing nursing training but never expected to practice on my hen!!!!! I would at least like to get some verbal feedback as of the OUCH factor!)

Best wishes

I followed dawg53's advice when I saw worms in my chicken's poop. I wanted the worms gone now. So I did the wazine followed by safeguard 10 days later we have 6 more days until we can eat the eggs. I just wanted to make sure to kill the worms fast since the worms would kill my chickens. I am using acv and DE now and will use them as a preventive from now on. I will more then likely de-worm once a year from now on, I am going to use the Ivermectin next year most likely when they go through molt. I just want to make sure that all my chickens are as healthy as possible.
