Probably where ever you read this Gapes were misdiagnosed, as it is 99% of the time, Chicken yawns or coughs for whatever reason and automaticaly has gapes, Chicken is givin whatever and cured, Levamisole.Albendazole.Fenbendazole and Ivermectin will control gapes if caught in time. Levamisole is in the bloodstream quicker than the others, With either of these four it has to be in the bloodstream long and high enough to be effective..See post above
Hi Covey Rise Plantation,
I read on the forum here that you are the 'expert' on gapeworm

I found a little baby chicken on the road 3 weeks ago and he's been unwell now for 2 weeks.
I live in Bali and the vet here normally only treats dogs and chickens. (so a bit hard to find the right meds).
Around 3 days ago I gave him Pyrantel, which got rid of 10 roundworms! yuck
But I discovered that Pyrantel does not kill gapeworm.
Now I went back to the vet and she gave me ivermectin. Do you think this can treat the gapeworm? And should I wait 7 days in between the pyrantel and the new wormer?
I am not sure if it is gapeworm, but it is prevalent in Asia and he does the neck stretching and gaping (not all the time though, but definitely quite a few times every day). He looks pale. And is scratching and shaking his head a lot. Also sneezing and diarrhoea and tucking his head in. Other times he is active and alive and eats well. Then again, quite miserable and tumbling over.
Thank you Covey Rise Plantation, or any other person, for replying to this one.
