Food Grade DE is like a fine powder. If anything like that explodes up into your face and you breathe it in, you will have a problem, not just because its DE. If I get an unexpected snootful of wheat flour, it will cause extreme coughing, etc. Anything you inhale that was not meant to be inhaled would cause someone respiratory distress to some degree.
