Worming confusion.

So I need to worm them twice. The first time then again in 10 days. Does worming them twice
make the egg withdrawl period longer or just the 2 week estimate?

I don't need to worry about possibly chocking them when putting the wormer in their mouths right?

1 more question: Do I have to worm them orally or can I just put the wormer in their water?
The oral method is not the most practical for me right now. Just wondering.

If that is the only way I will have to enlist help.

Thanks

If you are going to worm with valbazen, then yes it has to be given orally.

It is a bit of a PITA to deworm orally but then you know everybody got exactly the dose they need to do the job. It's much more precise then womer's in the water source.

It's a fairly small amount they need, just dribble it in their beaks slowly so they have a chance to swallow.

The 10 day repeat is to get anything that hatched from egg form since the first deworm.

Just a thought if you need to give an oral de-wormer to birds individually. I worked at a zoo and I de-wormed our poultry on a monthly basis as parasite control rotating ivermectin and pyrantel pamoate. Trying to speed up the process for myself, I found that for some birds that are not easy to catch up (worked great with peafowl) I could put the medication dosage in a piece or bread or something to soak it up, roll it into a ball, and the bird would gobble it down when I tossed it to him/her. Once in a while someone would grab the dosage intended for another bird, but these medications are pretty safe, so an overdosage was not a huge concern if it happened once in a great while.

Not a bad idea. I am aware of Roy Rooster's coop design and know that it's going to be a PITA for her, but a necessary PITA.

I have two walk in coops with plenty of space to manuvuer in. I enlist the help of my DH. We go into the coops in the morning, before turning the birds out for the day. He grabs a bird, holds it while I dose it and then turns that bird loose outside. Repeat until all the birds are dosed. That way no one gets double dosed.

Actually now that you mention it I've heard somebody else here suggest that too. Sounds much easier and I think I'll try that next time too.

That is a great idea, thanks for the suggestion. Some of my ladies are a little stand-offish and might not
be to happy being picked up then to get the wormer in their mouths would be loads of fun. I will
try your method, I think that would work a lot better.
