Hello! This is my very first post here. I'm looking for recommendations on deworming my mixed flock of turkeys and chickens. What would be the easiest route to go? I have no run at all. They totally free range. Sorry if this is in the wrong category but I had no clue where to post this. Also! If anyone has any recommendations on feeding a mixed flock of turkeys and chickens that would be great. I'm currently feeding purina flock raiser from tractor supply but it's almost $20 a bag here. I'm trying to stick with my local feed mill to save a little bit of money as I'm hatching eggs and expanding my flock as well. Thank you in advance!

Do they have worms?
Best to get fecal floats done before deciding if they need to wormed or not.

I use Flock Raiser, form hatch to harvest.
Yeah, it costs more than others(due to the higher protein) but it's pretty good feed.
Might want to ask that question in the feeding forum and/or the turkey forum for more options.

Tho I see PA in your screen name...Pennsylvania?
Here's how to your general geographical location so it shows under your avatar.
It's easy to do, and then it's always there!

Thank you for the information! I just updated my location! I may just stick with the flock raiser then..I'm waiting to see if they take a liking to it. They havent seemed to eat much of it since I started using it a few days ago so I'm not sure what to think of it yet! As for the worms..yes I'm sure they have them. I had a bantam that was getting beat up right before I got rid of my excess roosters so she was in a cage in my shed when I realized she had worms in her stool. She acted very sick. Wasnt sure if she'd make it but i wormed her (just with puppy wormer for a quick fix) and she was 100 times better after that. I dont really want to worm my whole flock with puppy wormer so I'm looking for something more suited for them. I have some hens with diarrhea and getting dirty bottoms so I need to get this taken care of..I know the flies are starting to get bad here and this is my first time raising dairy heifers so will have more than weve ever had. I dont want to have to deal with fly strike or anything like that!

Thank you guys so much! That's very helpful! Stupid question but is it necessary to weigh each bird individually? Deworming my flock may take me awhile lol
No, just use the estimated average weight of your whole flock of chickens. Then the estimated weight of your turkeys.
I have a lightweight EE and other birds up to about 5 pounds, they get 1/2cc valbazen orally. My heavy JG and Light Brahma's get 3/4cc. My rooster is heavier, I dose him 1cc. No problems. Valbazen is a safe wormer and tough to overdose, just use common sense.
Use the average weight of your turkey's and dose them accordingly.
Dont forget to redose again in 10-14 days.

Can you get hold of flubenvet where you are? I’m in the U.K. you will need to worm twice a year running a mix of chickens and turkeys as blackhead kills turkeys. The chickens carry the worm often un effected but it wipes out turkeys quickly.
Also it comes in ready mixed bags of layers pellets or the powder form to mix in with feed for a week
