worming with wazine

Good question. Sorry, I don't know the answer, but it seems like a good idea to me. I'll be watching this to see what the people who know something have to say.

Hope you have a GREAT DAY!!

Thanks dawg53
It’s just sad to toss so many eggs specially the pink one

I know donna8424, I threw away 13 eggs today and I dont like it anymore than anyone else. However, it's better than cracking open an egg and possibly finding a worm in it,yuckers!!! Next Saturday I'll be giving them their second worming. I'm mainly going after tapeworms this time. Last week I found a section of tapeworm in a nest and I about went ballistic. After much research here and other sites,it appears that a horse wormer called Zimecterin Gold and/or Safeguard (fenbendazole) will take care of the tapeworms. However some sites (here too) say that Safeguard will not kill tapeworms,so I'm not sure about it. I know for fact that both will kill leftover roundworms and other worms too. I've purchased both at the feed store and I'm going to mix both products and give it to the chickens. The Zimecterin Gold dosage must be exact, both it and Safeguard I'm using are in paste form. The dosage for the Safeguard can be more than prescribed with no adverse effects. So what I'm going to do is mix a BB size dose of both products and give it to each chicken. This is going to be very time consuming but it has to be done right the first time. BTW- the Zimecterin Gold packaging states it kills a certain type of tapeworm, there are different types of tapeworms that chickens can get. My experience (with dogs) is that if they have a certain type of tapeworm, just about any tapeworm meds will kill them all. I'm betting that it'll be the same with the chickens. The Safeguard labeling doesnt say whether it kills tapeworms or not. In any case, I'll be waiting another month before we can eat the eggs after next Saturday grrrr. What we need is a month of sunshine to dry everything out. Wet and damp soil is conducive for worms and chickens will get them one way or another.

It's 7 days now since I've given Wazine. I have a huge basket of eggs in my garage from 15 hens! I'm not feeding them back or giving them to the dogs. If humans shouldn't eat the eggs because of contamination (that's presumably the idea, isn't it?), then why would I feed the eggs to the animals, thus continuing the Wazine dosing?

Next Wednesday, I'll dose with Ivermectin. It's my understanding that with Ivermectin there's no need to hold the eggs.

BTW, I'm treating for an active case of roundworm (worms observed in poop).

Now, what am I going to do with the basket of useless eggs? LOL I need another basket ....

I don't think so, you are using that product in an off label usage, aka, not exactly up to regs.

Talk to some folks that might have a clue as to its metabolic half life. That will determine the withdrawal period.

It takes a while for it to leave the birds system and it will work on you just like it does on the birds.

Happy worming.
