worming?

first. I did not mean to imply that I thought DE was a wormer or a substitute for one.
I was just saying what my routine was. I thought DE was for bugs. I was saying I have not seen any signs of any bugs or mites.
second. Whether I deworm them today or tomorrow or next week, I don't see any signs of worms and all the other chickens are fat, sassy, and healthy.
It was just this one chicken. And it doesn't matter now because she is dead.
I will look for the dewormer as I feel it is a good routine to have. I raised horses my whole life, I know about regular dewormings and the importance of them.
I don't know why this chicken died. I don't have anyone here that could help me with it or look at it for me.
I was hoping for some insight here.. I tried everything that was suggested.

I can send you enough for now if you'll pay shipping. Actually I will send you enough to worm them 3 or 4 times. I have a super size jug that will expire before I ever use it. Everything on the place including the dogs and cat get it. I even think I have accidentally dosed myself. I know for sure I did it with Ivomec..LOL

Thank you.. you are very kind. I will let you know if I don't find it. I have a neighbor that raises sheep, I'm going to try to catch them at home and find out what they use and where they get their supplies.
Surely there is somewhere here that would have it. I know I can get the horse dewormers at the chain store, they deal mostly with horse supplies.

I'm not going to ask how you could dose yourself with dewormer.. LOL.. I have a funny mental picture of it.....

Tilly's Nest :

What does her crop feel like?

her crop seemed fine to me. I couldn't feel anything different. It was very empty in a short time though , since she was not eating.

I spilled about half a bottle of pour on Ivomec on me. I got dosed good. I didn't have a place to wash it off for about an hour. It was originally made for humans anyway and Im still alive.

Where else can i get some? Any help would be great . thanks sooo much

For those folks who have a sick chicken; please find out if that chicken has worms before you give a sick chicken worm medicine.
If the chicken is ill, it needs the right medicine to survive. There are many illnesses that our chickens can have. Bacterial infections have been the most common thing that any of my birds have had and they require an antibiotic; virus's, injuries, congenital deformities, problems related to egg laying, problems with the crop to name just a few.

Valbrazen is for worms. If a fecal check shows that your chickens have worms, please use it.
But if you have a sick chicken please find out what is wrong with the chicken before worming it. At the very least take a poop sample to your family vet and have it checked for worms before you order the worm medicine for $35 and stop eating the eggs for 24 days.

I don't know why people on here recommend that one sick chicken in a flock means that the whole flock should immediately be wormed with Valbrazen. Maybe they are sales representatives for Valbrazen.
I have honestly wondered about the motives of people on BYC who for every sick chicken recommend pouring worm medicine their system.

Can you imagine a hen with coccidia who has a bloody irritated digestive tract having worm medicine given to her? And the worm medicine won't help at all with coccidia. That requires another medicine which is even less expensive than the wormer......but if you have made up your mind to recommend or give worm medicine every time a hen becomes ill then a lot of chickens will not get the proper treatment, they will die when they could have lived and they will suffer.
