For those folks who have a sick chicken; please find out if that chicken has worms before you give a sick chicken worm medicine.
If the chicken is ill, it needs the right medicine to survive. There are many illnesses that our chickens can have. Bacterial infections have been the most common thing that any of my birds have had and they require an antibiotic; virus's, injuries, congenital deformities, problems related to egg laying, problems with the crop to name just a few.
Valbrazen is for worms. If a fecal check shows that your chickens have worms, please use it.
But if you have a sick chicken please find out what is wrong with the chicken before worming it. At the very least take a poop sample to your family vet and have it checked for worms before you order the worm medicine for $35 and stop eating the eggs for 24 days.
I don't know why people on here recommend that one sick chicken in a flock means that the whole flock should immediately be wormed with Valbrazen. Maybe they are sales representatives for Valbrazen.
I have honestly wondered about the motives of people on BYC who for every sick chicken recommend pouring worm medicine their system.
Can you imagine a hen with coccidia who has a bloody irritated digestive tract having worm medicine given to her? And the worm medicine won't help at all with coccidia. That requires another medicine which is even less expensive than the wormer......but if you have made up your mind to recommend or give worm medicine every time a hen becomes ill then a lot of chickens will not get the proper treatment, they will die when they could have lived and they will suffer.
