worms in wound!!! HELP!!

I posted yesterday about my chicken who was chased by a predator.
She ended up in the neighbors yard and was in their pond.
The small wounds that I saw are really looking quite well, but there is one that I completely missed on the breast down towards the belly.
I saw it today because the feathers didn't look right. Upon closer inspection I saw that it has worms in it!

I don't know of any vets that take care of birds in my area so I'm not sure what to do next.

I did see on another thread that you can bathe chickens in a water/vinegar solution so I am going to do that this morning and of course apply neosporin, but is there something else I can do?

I'm really lost here. I've never had this happen to as chicken before and don't feel like I have near enough experience to deal with it.

this chicken will most definitely die if I do the wrong thing.

ANY help is GREATLY appreciated!!!

I would clean the area very well applying Hydrogen Peroxcide to the wound to kill any infection, then apply a good safe wound dressing. most importantly keep the bird seperated if possible in a clean enviroment until the wound begins to scab over, if you put him back with the others your problems will just return. vinegar whats up with that ?? why ??.

vinegar is a natural astringent. you can clean/disinfect there equipment with it, and when you put it in their water (apple cider vinegar) it works with the healthy bacteria in their system to fight the bad bacteria from taking over.
I use it to clean my veggies, like broccoli, to kill bugs that are hiding places where I might not see them before i eat it. rinses right off so it doesn't affect the flavor.

On another thread some people were talking about how shiny the feathers are after the vinegar bath. I just figured this would be the time to use it because I don't really have a need for chickens with shiny feathers. I can do the hydrogen peroxide after the bathe ... although I have to questions.

i am getting the bath ready now as well as a place for the chicken to rest undisturbed away from the rest of the birds ....

how do i get to this wound without the bird whipping about when I apply the hydrogen peroxide?
How do I dress the wound??? What do you mean?

I had a rooster that was sick and nobody new how to care for a c hickens in my city but we took him to the closest vet and they had a big disease book and they took care of him. So just go to the vet see if can do anything. You could also get some de wormer liquid from meyer, mcmurray, and randal burkey hatcheries.

The worms are maggots. Do you have any betadine? That will kill them. So will peroxide. Once you get it clean it might help to put swat or some other fly repellent around(not on) the wound.

Thank you, you're right they aren't worms ... I'm just so panicked! After I get the maggots out, and clean the wound, should the floor of where I put him be plain or have wood chips or a towel? Since the wound is on the breast/stomach area I feel like the wood chips will stick to it ...

You're right, a towel would be much better. You could also use one of those spray-on wound coverings for people. Most important is to get the maggots out. Not too much Betadine. You can pull them out with tweezers.

I'm trying to get the nerve up to do this ... pulling them out with tweezers? I get queasy ...

Wishing my husband were home because he's way better at this stuff. He's the one to clean up after the dog and the kids. When my son was bitten by a dog and needed stitches he was the one able to stay with him, while I was puking in the bathroom ...

I'm going to pretend I'm fishing and these are the worms that go on the hook.....

my poor chicken! I feel so inadequate right now!!
The quiet, darkish, breezy, cool, resting place is all set up.
the vinegar bath is ready to go. I have neosporin, hydrogen peroxide, tweezers and scissors (last 2 in alcohol to keep them sterile)

I need to run to the store for the swat .. we are surrounded by horse farms. I'm also going to try and find a t-shirt to put on the bird like threehorses suggested. It should keep the wound sterile while giving it air.

Maybe some Gatorade to add to the drinking water.

I wonder if I can add Gatorade and vinegar at the same time?
I'm also going to add the vitamin E and yogurt to the mash. Not sure if the bird has eaten or not ...

You can do it!!! I know it is difficult, but you can do it. If the bird is moving around to much, I think if you cover their head it should help them settle a bit.
