hi i posted a post earlier on today about one of my hens laying a soft egg and now staying in her nest,,ive just been out to check on her she hasnt eaten any of the the crushed egg and shell ive put next to her,,i also i picked her up and looked again for mites,,nothing,,but then she had a slimey pho,,so i looked through it with a stick ,and i saw a worm ,i do worm my hens with a liquid called {verm x} its an organic medicine, not sure if you can get it in the states,, i hate the thought of my hens having worms,it has put me off eating there eggs till i know the problem has gone,, so please has any body got some advice for me to rid of this problem ??,,also does you know if verm x is any good,???

When is the last time you wormed and how often? Could she be recovering from her body trying to rid itself after she was wormed? I use DE to worm and have never had a problem.

my impression of vermX is that it si more for use in the management/prevention of worms and less useful treating an active worm infestation... (I have read several posts at Practical Poultry forum when ppl have not been successful with it when trying to treat)...

ive been giving it to them around every 4 - 5 weeks, but ive just been out to check on her again and checked her pho,,and i couldnt see any worms, its still slimey tho...i only see {one worm} yesterday,,also i know she hasnt been eating,, but her crop pouch was full,so ive massaged it to help it down ,shes not very well at all,no energy, nothing....what can i give her for an energy boost?????

...you are in England yes? (I am in Holland)
I did not take note of all the poultry supplements they mention at the Practical Poultry forum but have seen a number of them... you can send off a pm to David T there as he is a wealth of that sort of info...
Any illness will cause malabsorption of nutrients to one degree or another and I would be looking for a good complete poultry supplement to give her (and if she is not drinking and you are not giving meds in the waterer, then an electrolyte will often also have vit added to it to give to her but you should only use an electrolyte only if indicated... when you are pretty sure she is not drinking enough or she is panting)
