Worms!

Hi all,

I'm to chicken keeping and have three 18week old chickens. I spent time this morning searching the garden for worms, which i thought would be a lovely treat for them, but when i put them in their run, they looked at them and walked away! they were more interested in some bits of seed!! does anyone else have chickens that dont like worms??!

I'd be careful trying to feed them worms. Sure, they'll sometimes eat them on their own, but they can get something called gapeworm from eating worms. Mine will eat earthworms, but other times they ignore them.

Hi, that's a good thing, really. Earthworms can give your chickens internal parasites.
My chickens free range & leave the earthworms alone . I raise mealworms & they just LOVE them.

oh right, well thanks for letting me know! i had been told previously that worms were good for them, but i will avoid them in future!
