how old do chicks have to be before you give them meal worms? thanks

I'm thinking that free range chicks will eat whatever mom will show them and I assume that would include bugs. Worms should be fine as treats but not so many as hey are not getting enough chick starter.
Anyone else have any opinions on this?

Mine got meal worms (and regular worms, crickets and generic bugs I found around - and even scrambled eggs and grapes) the first day they were here (day 2 of their lives). Just make sure they have access to chick grit.
They're 2 weeks old today, getting huge and feathering out nicely... and look very forward to "snack time."

Mine are 2 1/2 weeks old, spend some time, when it's nice and warm, outside and eat earthworms. When I do some work in the garden and find one I will give it to them and they go bananas

You should see them racing around and chasing each other. Like catstar68 said, if they would be with momma hen they would eat all kinds of stuff !!!
