Worried about BYC! Anyone feel the same?

I posted in the games section for the first time yesterday. I got the impression it was mostly younger BYCers trying to have some fun? I'm not worried about BYC at all, you come here with the knowledge that you are joining a legion of chicken/poultry fans everything else is a bonus. Also it's fun for us people that might not be chicken experts (and therefore can't really bring anything to particular thread) to give advice on something they have experience in (like for me, that would be horses).

You said that exactly right!

We definitely appreciate our members feedback and concerns, but assure you that we are piloting this ship on a very specific course, and you can trust your captains and crew!

This topic has been discussed a bit over the years, but the most important thing to keep in mind is that any community (church, friends, clubs, etc.) is part topic specific and part social. BYC has been crafted over the years to be a perfect blend of topic specific threads and social threads.

Fortunately it's easy to avoid topics and discussions you aren't interested in. For example, could narrow down the "new topics" list by category of the forum, and then scrolling down for a list of all recent topics in that section:

Only raising chicken stuff:

Only Breed stuff:
https://www.backyardchickens.com/f/65/chicken-breeds

Only social stuff:

Again, we appreciate the concerns and the suggestions, but please trust us and our years of experience and use our great tools that allow you to easily segment our site and customize it in a way that works best for you.

I agree about the games and RPs. I use BYC on my mobile and the new post thread which I browse often is always full of RPs and games. I don't mean to offend anyone by saying this but aren't there other forums that are dedicated to those kind of games.

I do get tired of seeing so many of them and as I understand it these games are fast paced so they are constantly being posted on.

BYC is great. And that is why I'm worried, it seems to me that there are so many chat threads and games going on that users are starting to "lose the point". I mean, now a lot of threads don't even focus on chickens or other poultry. Does anyone else feel this way?

Sorry if I'm over reacting but the "jokes, fun, and games section is HUGE. Is this something to be worried about? Just wondering.

I kinda agree with that statement.

But the issue I have is that when I'm looking for new posts I don't want to see the jokes/games/etc. I want to learn and talk about chickens. I get frustrated when looking for new posts to see what others are doing and have to see the other stuff. I know it doesn't take long to go past it but it is annoying.

X2 Exactly!

I look through the New Posts frequently and notice many poultry related posts. The social forums are of general interest and, I think, quite important to the health of BYC as a community board. In addition to keeping it lively, the activity created by the social forums enhances the search engine ranking of the website and brings it to the attention of potential new members.

Note bolded letters in nifty's post

Yes,there are other websites, but not of all of those forums are filled with chicken enthusiasts. This forum is home to a unique group of people you will find on no other forum.
