My sister was like your daughter. She made up stories, and lied to cover up her indiscretions. As she grew older, she told stories about my family to anyone that would listen. She even told stories about my parents to THEIR friends and co-workers. As you can imagine, my family was embarrassed beyond belief.
By the time she was 26, she was still telling stories. She would lie rather than tell the truth even if it made no difference at all. What is the point of that???
As an example, I told her that our eucalyptus tree keeps dropping branches. I told her that this is normal, that eucalyptus trees just drop their branches. Well, two weeks later, she is talking about something and mentions that a eucalyptus tree fell down. I asked why. She says that eucalyptus trees all just fall down, that's how they perpetuate the species. I explained it wasn't the tree, just the branches, and she insists, no, it's the tree. Then I realize she took my story from two weeks ago and dramatized it to make it very interesting, and when I told her this, she denied ever hearing about it from me.
By the time she was 27, she was telling people she was going to steal my baby to save it from me and my DH. She is no longer speaking to any of us (Mom, Dad, or her two sisters). I personally feel safer this way. There is something wrong with her. I wonder if my parents could have helped her when she was younger.
It's odd that I don't even know what parts of my childhood were real or not. I was the baby sister, so I fell hook, line, and sinker for her lies.
Good luck. I hope you can solve this riddle, or find someone else who can.
