Hi! I’m just starting chicks (my first ever) and they are about 3.5-4 weeks old. One of my chicks, a barred rock, is exhibiting some concerning behavior. Everything I read says the symptoms alone are normal, but not too much about when they are in conjunction. I was holding my baby and she was rubbing her beak on my ring. Usually, kind of normal, but she sneezed on me after! Like clear odorless fluid and was clicking her beak as well. Visually no abnormalities but I worry it might be something. I know they are susceptible to pneumonia but I’m not sure if that’s what she has. Anyways, I love my chickens and I just want her to be okay. Thanks bunches!

Yes, they have been in my house but two days ago I moved them to my garage and a larger space. They have a brooder plate in the coop and sufficient heat during the day that they can move away from if it’s too warm. When I got them one of the chicks seemed neurological or dealing with a deficiency, so I started a medicated crumble and a probiotic/electrolyte mix for their water. I quit both of those about 5 days ago and they seemed to thrive.( My deficient chick appears well but still behind in growth compared to the others) and now one of my healthiest girls is exhibiting the beak wiping, sneezing, and clicking signs.

You need to allow them to live outside with their coop and run. So they’re exposed to constant fresh air.
Yes! I have brought them outside to run around in but I’m in Montana and we are getting too cold of weather to let my babies run around too much. I bring a heat lamp out with them to ensure they stay warm. I also open my garage for them during the heat of the day if I can’t get them out!

Your chicks should be fine in 40F temp. If you must keep them indoors keep it dust free as much as possible. Chickens are prone to respiratory disorders.
Thank you! Yeah, it’s been snowing and I don’t much think they’d like that 😅 I’ll keep my eye on her and see how she does! Thank you
