Worried Im soon going to have 50 baked chicken dinners...

another thing, (why I got out of florida - ft myers) adding more insulation in my moms house and putting in another simple roof vent made a huge differencegiven that's out and a/c is out-, I would dig a hole in your sand immediately it will be cooler down deep, I hesitate to make it too wet, moist would be better, you could also tent a large wet beach towel over the hole and keep it wet, this will cool somewhat (emergency survival one o one) Let the chickens in or out if they wish, if they stay in your hole, you'll know it's helping..........good luck.

Do your chickens have a run? Is the run shaded? I'm totally shooting in the dark here, as I live in MN and am not at all familiar with Florida's climate. We've had excessive heat here, too, but not quite like you have. Um, how about a mister hose in the run? It doesn't seem like keeping them in the coop all the time could possibly be a good thing. I've read about people in the south making an "open air" coop. Could that be an option for you?

I agree that a window AC is a good plan for your coop. Maybe you can find a small unit on craigslist or in the newspaper. I hope that cools things down for you all!
