I have liked almost every breed we have had so far. Meanest was the Production Red. We had a Rustic Rambler that had trouble seeing, and she was horribly mean to her. She picked on the Ramblers & Australorps the most. Not sure if it was something with the black feathered breeds. She also was the only hen that would bite if you tried to collect eggs when she was on the nest. I would hold a kitty litter scooper in one hand to lift her up & block her pecks, then grab the eggs quick w my other hand. She wa not broody, just mean.

The othet I am not fond of is ISA browns. Maybe we got a bad batch, but they are not super friendly, and one has been broody 3 times and is only 1.5 years old. I’m sticking with heritage breeds.

I did want to leave a note about my Buff Orpingtons. Our pullets are very gentle & loveable, and our cockerel is lowest of the 4 boys, not agressive at all, last to crow, and is more interested in eating than chasing girls. He is my favorite boy. 😊 Not sure about the two girls we keep at the farm (too many eggs to know who laid what), but my BO in my yard lays a very large egg, even her first was bigger than the others. Maybe it depends on where people get theirs for the size of thr egg?

I had two Lavender Orpington hens. -didn't particularly care for either. Millicent crowed like a rooster, loudly. Violet was just very aloof. -paid a hefty $40 a piece for them as chicks.

I will never have this breed again. Instead, this spring, we got four $3.25 Buff Orpingtons. I've always done well with these!
