I am going to get my first set of chicks in a few weeks. Trying to set up a proper area for the chicks. My husband has a brand new parts washer tub he hasn't used yet. It seems perfect for a brooder. It is on a stand, has a lid, even a drain hole to clean everything out when we are done:) But, then I got to wondering if the color would be bad. It is very pretty - a beautiful shiny red. I remember that the birds peck at red - thinking it is blood. What do you think?

I say go for it. They may give it a peck or two but wont hurt. I think one of the main things that you can cause or prevent dealing with red pecking would be mainly marking your chicks with red. Have fun with your first chickens...just keep that bin handy for you 2nd batch of chicks..and 3rd...and...lol
