Would chickens kill and eat a rat?

I say rule of thumb with chickens is to expect them to peck at carcasses if they can get to them. Of course, this will vary from bird to bird, but for rule of thumb purposes,

They can't swallow a rat whole, but I HAVE seen them pecking leftovers of one that had been caught by a cat.

Always use extreme caution in using poisons and keep it as a last resort when you have chickens.
