I got home from work and was out checking on the chickens. Tweety my banty Cochin hen was out in the yard with her 3 chicks eating some oatmeal I had laid out for them. I was just standing there watching them and the other chickens when Tweety suddenly stands as tall as she can and lets out this blood curdling scream and the babies dive for cover. She then puffs up spreads her wings and runs as fast as she can towards the coop, which is about 60 feet away, screaming all the way. I stand there looking around trying to see what scared her and then I see it, there was a hawk on the ground right in front of the coop. Tweety was tearing up the yard going after the hawk.

The hawk jumped back and then flew around the right side of the coop. Tweety darted around the left side of the coop. I lost sight of both as they went behind the coop. I then see the hawk fly off and Tweety coming around the right side of the coop heading back to her chicks.

I could not believe this small ball of feathers that is maybe a pound and a half on a good day would attack a hawk and just flat out scare the crap out of it. I wish I had the camcorder, it was unbelievable.
