Hello, my name is Whitley and I am on a small farm in Duluth, MN. I have read and learned a ton on this site for years, ever since I hatched my own ducks and looked up info on tips for building my own incubator. I finally decided to actually make an account and join the community. I mostly come on BYC to read posts about ducks, as I have twelve precious ducks that are like my children. I have 1 female pekin, 1 male black Swedish, 1 male Indian runner, 4 cayugas (2 male and 2 female), and 5 female welsh harlequins. I also recently have 9 chickens. 4 wyandottes, 1 speckled Sussex, 1 dark Brahma, 1 black sex link, 1 wheaten olive egger, and 1 green queen bantam. The chickens are newer for me. I’m not as knowledgeable about them as I am the ducks but they are approaching 4 months and are a joy! My speckled Sussex is especially cuddly and always wants me to hold her whenever she sees me!
I love being able to be out in my garden during the summer and early fall months and see my babies all out and about enjoying the weather with me.
Alongside gardening and hanging with my ducks and chickens, I enjoy bird watching, reading, drawing and painting, hiking/snowshoeing depending on the time of year, and aquascaping. I also own a rescue red eared slider, some freshwater aquarium fish, 2 dogs, and 4 cats. And I have a small bird sanctuary I’ve been adding to for all my wild backyard winged friends.
I am possibly looking into getting an associates degree in dental hygiene, but am currently completing a program in natural science illustration to strengthen my art skills in drawing and painting birds (my ducks and chickens are lovely models for me). So nice to be amongst others who love chickens (and ducks too!!)
