Would this style pool gate latch be raccoon safe if it's just closed and not locked with the key?

If you have to slide the lock up to open the gate I imagine it would be fine. If you have raccoons around, well I’ve heard they’re pretty smart. I don’t know if they’d figure it out though.

Is this something you already have on hand?
If not I wouldn't spend that kind of money on a gate latch for a coop or run. Predators are normally going to be more focused on going over, under or through than trying to open latches.

Thanks! My question is specifically wether predators like raccoons will be able to open this kind of latch or if it will be safe when it's closed but not locked with the key? The rest of the coop I already have a solution for.
