Would this shed work?

I saw one of these at Home Depot the other day. It looks pretty sturdy and is double walled. I initially was going to get it but found a different one at Lowes that I purchased instead. Hope it works well for you! You'll have room to make several levels of roosts and your chooks will be able to get nice and high up

The trusses are great for hanging feeders if you choose that route.

If it were mine, I would cut the whole triangle out of both gable ends within the simulated trim boards and install hardware cloth. The included gable vents are too small and also too restricted due to the louvers. Keep in mind that you would also have to make provisions to prevent rain from going into the openings such as a hood(ie: out of flashing material)over the vents. Then I would put the roosts well below the openings so that winter winds are not blowing directly on your birds. In the summer you could also remove some of the windows as you mentioned to allow for even more ventilation. Otherwise a very usable structure if you're not interested or don't have the time to stick build a coop.

Keep an eye out by going by some Home Depot's and checking their display's. About two week ago the one near me had two of these(displays in parking lot) for $299.99 each as is. There was nothing wrong with them and they were already assembled if you had a way to haul them whole.

Will you let us know when you get the building? I'm curious about how you will set up the roosts, install a chicken door, etc. I'm thinking the roosts will need to be free standing -- I don't know how you would attach to the resin walls.

TIA,

Becky

Taken last winter.....it is now seven years old and it held up great!

It is Royal Outdoor vinyl shed. Cut out for window and doggie door. Made a screen door to add more vent. If I had to redo it, I would have the vinyl door top half cut out for a storm window/hardware wire installed.

10 windows isn't enough ventilation? Plus the working gable vent? How many would I need? I ask because I've seen several wooden coops that have 1-4 small ones at most despite being close to the same size, so I figured 10 would be really good.

I thought it only had 8 windows but after reading the reviews it apparently has 10.

I saw a model in Home Depot's parking lot; those windows don't open...at least the ones on the model I saw didn't seem to. I guess you could replace them.

I will definitely take pics, etc. along the way and post them. DH seems to think we'll be able to figure something out (he's an engineer) so I hope he's right! If we can't easily drill in to the walls themselves we'll probably get the typical shelf brackets and use them--or we may just do that right off the bat.

They come in 3 parts--the frame, the plastic "glass," and the outer cross decorative frame. We will be using the main frame and possibly the decorative frame but instead of the plastic glass we'll be installing 1/2" hardware cloth. In the winter we'll probably cover some of the windows depending upon how cold it gets outside and/or how warm it stays inside. I'll keep the roosts below the windows so the drafts don't blow directly on the poultry as we do plan to leave some of the windows uncovered over the winter for ventilation.

Also, thanks to the suggestion from one of the folks on here we'll probably install hardware cloth where the gable vents are as well. And, if necessary, we'll add some vents near the bottom of the shed--however I'm not sure that will be a good idea given we get FEET of snow several times a year here and they'll probably be covered up.(
