DH picked this up at Lowe's on clearance and I wasn't sure if it would work as an egg turner being that it is metal. Opinions please.

I would attach an egg carton to it to keep the eggs from getting cracked by hitting the metal. But I would think it would work

If your good with tools and fabrication you could probably make some thing work. I think the motor and gear reducer are the most important parts, but major modification looks to be in order here.

The facts are you can make a 500hp cummings diesel work with the correct gearing and fabrication. The question is why go thru all that, your not really saving any money. I dont know what price was paid for the rotessoiry, but this low voltage gear motor, http://www.goldmine-elec-products.com/prodinfo.asp?number=G15492, I refered to in this thread, post#8, https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=426033, is only $12. You can make the windshield wiper mechanics out of scrap metal, attach to your trays, use a cellphone charger for a power supply and have a cheap turner motor that is very compact and has the power to turn multiple trays of eggs.
