Hmmm good point, the lamp is only 1boout 1" from the plastic....I'll run it today and see......

and I guess I could put it in our den and close the AC vents....that would decrease the need of a very hot lamp....it could get in the 80's in that room w little AC fast! lol

Hey Juan, looks great! I have an extra lixit bottle and will try it on the chicks and see how they react. I just switched everyone to a 50wat infared heat bulb today. I know you asked me for an OE and the Marans do you also want an EE?

Juan you are so creative!!!! Tht is an awesome brooder!! You will love the nipple water system I just got 40 chicks and at 3 days old they figured it out in a few seconds. Once one did it they ALL had to see what was goin on!!! How exciting for you gettin your first chicks!! Keep us posted on how things go!! I have blue copper marans and they ROCK!!

My co-worker has had ours in a rubbermaid tote converted to a brooder box, but they are soon going to have a wire dog crate with the sides covered with hardware cloth so they can't fit through the bars. We will move them into it in a week or so when they are a little bigger. They will be able to see much better and have more room to move around.
I was glad to see someone trying the drip water bottle. We were just discussing that today since they seem to be constantly kicking pine shavings into their water dish. It also takes up a lot of their floor space. We thought we would try one once they were in the other box with the wire on the sides.
Enjoy your new babies. We had ours outside last night for about 10 minutes and it was an absolute trip to watch them. In some ways I'm glad they aren't at my house, but at other times, I'm a little jealous!
