Would this work for leg mite prevention?

I have been doing some reading about leg mites and prevention. I was reading about putting olive oil on there legs or some sort of grease or mineral oil ect. Would it work to use like a cooking spray and just spray there legs?? We dust with DE for bugs why could you not just spray legs down with a cooking spray to keep things in check. They make all kinds now. It just seems handy to spray there legs once a month or so to keep them away.

It seems like it could work as long as there were no additives in the oil. I wonder if you would get a thick enough coating, though? Would the aerosol noise and feel scare the birds?
