Would you accept a rooster with curled toes?

I think some are missing the point that the poster is making. It has nothing to do with what caused the crooked toe. The poster was shipped cull chickens for good money and this is just not right. Don

I understand that. But my request is still valid. HOW curled are they? A tiny bit or extremely? Are they actually curled, or not?

I agree here, pictures would help us determine if it is something worthy of forming a complaint to the breeder. If its severe yes, if its a tiny bit crooked, I would not bother. You can STILL show a bird with a crooked toe and still win. I have a White silkie hen who won reserve Bantam with a crooked toe. Besides, Coronation Sussex are not accepted anyway so the best you can do is a breeder bird, not show quality. And that bird could prove to be invaluable as a breeder regardless of the crooked toe, and produce some awesome chicks. The OP did not want a show bird, just a breeder, which he got and if the toes do not hinder the birds ability to breed, and it does not pass on (which it probably will not ) then there is no huge loss on his part enough to warrant a new bird shipped to him, the bird will do what it was meant to do regardless. I am not saying its right the breeder shipped crooked toed birds without informing the OP, but, you have to pick your battles too and decide whether its worth it to you to raise a complaint to the breeder about it.

The breeder apparently shipped birds without disclosing the curled toes. Regardless of the severity (it was bad enough that the buyer questioned it), the cause, or wether or not the birds will pass on the defect, the buyer should have been well informed of what to expect from the birds they paid decent money for. Makes you wonder if selling high demand birds for a premium has gotten in the way of being a responsible breeder.

Buyer and seller should have good communication before a transaction is completed. I wouldn't purchase an expensive bird without first seeing the bird or at least seeing photos. It is a two sided coin, in my mind.

ETA: That being said ...... guess what I have ...... Coronations with feathered shanks.

Feathered shanks! Puts a new perspective on curled toes. That's funny!
