Would you give them away?

If you had (or have) chickens would you give or trade them away? You might under certain circumstances or you may never imagine doing that because you are attached to them..

We've given away roosters before. Never hens.

When we hatched eggs 4 years ago we ended up with six roosters with a flock of 30 hens. For the sake of the hens we decided to give away 3 of the roosters (one that we kept was a bantam). The alternative would have been freezer camp and I'd prefer the birds have a nice happy life with a flock of hens.

Nope! The only circumstances that could ever happen would be if I was dead. And then it wouldn’t matter. I’d come back and haunt my hubby and he knows this. I can be scary!!!!

I give away quite a few every summer, to cycle out old layers and extra cockerels and birds I have ended up with that are the wrong breed. Those not sold are souped. Sometimes they're good birds, I just need to downsize.

I couldn't imagine giving away any of my girls love em too much too!

That being said I know others won't feel exactly the same way and I don't blame them..


But I would never want to give one or exchange them personally

My parents always threatened to give me away as a kid and I would yell back, "GO AHEAD! They'd probably treat me better than you two anyway!" But they never did, I suppose I'm the same as well.

Yes, I have both sold and given away members of my flock depending on the situation and would do so again

I've given away quite a few, traded some others. I've been in it long enough I've learned not to get too attached. So it makes me feel good to give away a pullet or hen or roo to someone who needs one.

Ive given away 4 total cockerels, would never give up any of my pullets unless we had to move to an apartment that didn’t allow chickens (definitely NOT happening) and in that case I’d given them to a friend.
