Would you like to help settle this?

Defiantly crele OEG bantam. My absolute favorite variety of OE. I had a crele roo myself. Lovely bird! Super jealous of you. Can't find any breeders of them around. This was ugly finn when he was a mere cockerel

And here's finn says before he passed. Of course he was a rooster so his barring and colors are much more pronounced.

Did you know they boil bagels in ammonia!!!!
I didn’t know anyone boiled bagels in ammonia- but who do you mean? Wouldn’t that make them inedible? Yikes! Or, do they make them inedible intentionally? What’s the point of that?

(I’m thinking this comment must belong over on the “balut” thread?)

Omg! How CUTE is he! No need to be jealous of me- the bird in question isn’t mine.. but I’d love to have a couple! (That’s how the whole debate on what breed it is began- I’d like to find some.) Are they hard to come by? I think the one in my pics just came from a local feed store a few years ago. Maybe it got in the bunch accidentally or something? I hope they’re available here! I was thinking this was going to be easy an easy project.. (after the cajoling the fed up hubby part, I mean)! ☹️

But yes, your guy does look just like the bird in question- (or, the bird that was in question, that is)! So cute! Do they have friendly personalities? I’ve heard sometimes the Bantam breeds can be testy, and even ornery- and I don’t personally have much experience in the Bantam department. I know the bird in the pic is friendly, and VERY chatty- (this bird comes with a lot of funny stories- apparently it’s all over the place, curious, and small enough to be quite the accomplished little escape artist) but I’m wondering if that’s the breeds nature, or if it’s just that this particular bird is VERY socialized? Any input on that?

Hatchery crele OEG can be found easily. I order assorted OEG bantam chicks from idealpoulty and got 2 crele. I use ideal when ordering because they don't have a chick minimum (only a dollar minimum of 25$;so like 7 Chicks) so that's why I use them. Their prices also seem much more wallet friendly then other hatcheries I've looked over. (I have no idea what country you're from) but they also offer free shipping to some states in the US and even if it isn't free the shipping charge isn't that much.

Over all temperament is pretty good for the breed. My hens where all very flighty when they needed to be but where also rather calm and even friendly, especially if you had food.
I can't say you'll have the same luck though, since temperament varies by bird and not just breed. My OE bantans also free ranged and survived alot better then my laying hens. I love old English and had a flock of several silver duckwing, fawn silver duckwing, cuckoo, and white with my pretty crele male above them.
Finn was a very easy going Male. Never aggressive and would tolerate being held. He was the only rooster I've ever owned that wouldn't either attack you or run away. No he let you pick him up :)

Good luck! If you want to know about crele chicke search images of them to help you better your chances of stumbling across one.
While this isn't 100% accurate I've noticed Male chicks are blonde and females are much darker.

Nooooooo look it up. Just made mention of it because you had your chicken pecking on a bagel. Just a FYI
Oh!!! HAHAHA! You had me VERY confused for a minute there!! You’re talking about the Maillard reaction! I gotcha now! On a different post, balut (duckling embryos that some cultures eat as a delicacy) came up- so that’s where my mind leapt— food! Funny!
If anyone else following this thread is interested- here’s a good link that explains the Maillard reaction (a reaction between proteins- amino acids- and reducing sugar which, in a roundabout way, leaves negligible trace amounts of ammonia in many of the foods we eat). Thanks for sharing that, MissChick@dee! That was an interesting little side trip! Lol!

How do you tell a “crele” from “silver duck wing”?
I'll put up some pictures that show the difference. The main things are that creles are barred birds and have gold and silver in their plumage, in different places. Females should mainly have it at the neck. Silver duckwings are not barred and should have no gold at all in the plumage.

Also, if you look at the male's wings in the silvers, they do somewhat resemble a duck's wing, with the darker area at the shoulder, which is shiny green in the light, resembling a duck's metallic blue or green speculum. The creles don't have this because there is barring in that area.
